Sign the Petition to Protect Energy Choice

Over the last several years, state lawmakers have worked to take away energy choices from consumers. They are specifically focused on removing access to natural gas energy, making changes to rules and regulations that will effectively chip away at energy options.

We need a balanced energy approach that includes a mix of energy sources, including natural gas. Policymakers and regulators must consider the likely harms of natural gas bans on affordability and reliability and keep energy choice intact for all of us in the Pacific Northwest.

But lawmakers across the region are looking for ways to restrict or even outright ban our access to affordable, reliable natural gas energy. At the city, county, and state level, elected officials and unelected bureaucrats are trying to enact regulations and bans that would have major impacts on residents across the region.

Here are some of the ways government officials are working to reduce your access to natural gas energy:

Impact Fees – Increasing fees for home builders and building developers to include natural gas hookups will price people out of the market.

Extreme State Agency Action – As we work toward reducing emissions, natural gas is an important factor in clean energy options, but opaque policy decisions by state agencies and unelected government bureaucrats are taking over where voters are standing firm.

Building Codes – Making it virtually impossible for new construction to be equipped to run on natural gas energy for heating and cooking, which leads to increased costs for taxpayers, consumers, and builders, as well as limits energy choice options.

Eliminating Appliance Rebates – Disproportionately impacting lower income communities, if states and municipalities eliminate rebates for natural gas appliances, customers will be stuck with higher energy bills.

Restricting energy choice drives up the costs of housing and goods while threatening family-wage jobs in our state. In the face of heat waves, wildfires and winter storms, dual energy systems – both gas and electric – are essential. Many homes and businesses with natural gas can have energy even when the power is out, providing resiliency and safety.

Send a message to legislators today, showing them there is power in numbers and their constituents won’t back down from protecting energy choices that best meet our needs and wallets.
